Description
“Top Hat N Snail” – I decided on doing a top hat for a shell. I wondered about a hermit crab but soon realised it was a fun play on the words top hat n tails if it was a snail. And since I’m a costume designer, it seemed more fitting.
Due to the hat colour suggestion on the sunflower illustration coming out as purple ( and I did blue) I decided the snail would be purple. I added a rosette to the shell hat as a way to incorporate the swirls of a traditional snail shell. The hat was always green as this is my favourite colour. It turned out accidentally like suffragette colours. A massive happy accident.
I use a mix of inks, an alchemy of sorts to create the edge effects and include metallics which create shine and lustre such as on the hat’s copper kettle. Which by the way, is always on.
