Established in 2003 Greener Lavelle is the business name for Creative Director Kim McDermottroe.

Kim has a varied portfolio spanning over two decades of work that ranges from creative direction, costume design and construction, bespoke puppet design and construction, illustration, artist talks, mentoring and arts workshop facilitation.

If you’re having an event, why not hire one of the Greener Lavelle family of fantastical creatures. If your event has the space we can bring those memory making, magical moments.

From character design and logos to book illustration or complete educational worksheet concepts, Greener Lavelle can work with you to create exciting images and activities tailored to your own specific themes and requirements, using either digital rendering or more traditional hand drawn techniques.

Greener Lavelle designs and produces costumes for museums, theatre, carnival and for TV and film. Museum work can include creating historical replicas for staff to use in object handling sessions, the design and creation of educational costumes for visiting children to wear, set and prop design and construction and creating bespoke learning aids such as activity sheets and full education packs.

If you love our work, but don’t see what you require in our current hire offer, why not get in touch for a chat and a no obligation quote on your very own Greener Lavelle creation.

Drawing has always been part of Kim’s creative life. From quite a young age, she would put pencil to paper to create pictures. And now it is the underpinning of most of her work as a designer.
Her personal illustration work is rooted in her love of the natural world. Her playful approach reflects in her imaginative combinations of flora and fauna with mechanical styles and influences. Detailed, hybrid beings which she executes mostly, in inks.
Combined with a nod to her career in costume, her illustrated characters often wear clothing elements which create a familiar yet fantastical aesthetic.

Kim has had four successful solo exhibitions.

Here you’ll find blog posts about Kim’s more personal artistic practice.

Her work has a distinctive sepia palette and textural approach that make you feel that her work was excavated from a lost library.

Kim’s style can be compared to Jim Henson and Guillermo Del Toro, but it is uniquely her own, blending together her artistry as a designer, illustrator and puppet maker.

Find out about her sketchbook of characters and how they are coming to life through stop motion animation, theatre and the adventures in between.

“Greener Lavelle is one of the most amazing companies I have had the pleasure of working with.  Their ability to bring bright, bold and transformative ideas to fruition is one of the strongest I’ve seen within the North.

We have worked together on a number of projects, but seeing their interpretation of the Hartlepool Monkey go from design to reality was a thing of wonder.  It is rare that both initial designs and finished products are of excellent quality, but Greener Lavelle has the unique ability to bring dreams to life!”
