“Sunflower” was added to the collection because I was having a springtime exhibition and I thought what better way than to brighten it up than a big sunflower.
I was thinking about how we give bunches of flowers. Wrapped in paper. What if the grew out of paper in the first place?
And the hat? I asked people to suggest colours on Facebook. Purple won and blue was second. But then I remembered photographing my next door neighbours’ sunflowers against a sunny, blue sky. It had to be blue to represent this. I did the snail illustration (Top Hat n Snail) purple instead.
I use a mix of inks, an alchemy of sorts to create the edge effects and include metallics which create shine and lustre. The sunflower illustration has high grand copper acrylic elements such as the string and trim around the top hat.
Avoid placing in direct sunlight.
